Peregrine is an ethnographic research firm. We spend time with people in the places where their lives happen, and we come back with the kind of understanding that surveys and focus groups alone tend to miss.

Most research asks people what they think. The trouble is that people are unreliable narrators of their own lives. What they say they want and what they actually do, protect, and return to are often different things, and the gap between the two is usually where the real answer lives.

Access to Big Data is no longer the competitive advantage it once was, and it was never as helpful as it pretended to be. But real understanding—the kind that reveals what people actually value, not just what they buy or click—creates a foundation for strategy that serves people better and performs longer.

Where We Fit

Sitting in someone’s kitchen, walking their commute, watching how a room or a street or a service actually gets used will tell you things no questionnaire can. It’s slower than a survey. It’s also the difference between knowing what people said and knowing what’s going on.

We help organizations understand the people they serve, so that strategy, services, and solutions get built on how things really work rather than how they look from the office.

We help cities, developers, and design teams understand how people actually relate to the places they live, before decisions get expensive to change. We're on a mission to restore the built environment's relational dimension.

Peregrine has conducted field research for state agencies, school districts, national foundations, and businesses, and we write regularly about what we’re learning.
